Here are some ideas for enjoying nature in Central oregon.
- FISHING: You can see all the great Cascade lakes and rivers on the map below. See this website for fishing info about several. Sunriver Fly Shop (Sunriver Business Park). Or try Fly & Field Outfitters on S. Century Dr. in Bend.
- SNOWSHOEING: Wanderlust Tours has all kinds of treks, winter and summer.
- ATV TOURS & RENTALS: Central Oregon Adventures has tours and rents ATVs, snowmobiles, and scooters.
- SKIING & SNOWBOARDING: Mt. Bachelor, of course. Opens about Thanksgiving day; closes Memorial Day. Outstanding powder, all kinds of snowboarding pipes and parks, daycare, restaurants, shuttle, the works!
Mt Bachelor - HORSEBACK RIDING: Sunriver Stables is located on the west side of Sunriver along the Deschutes River. [Turn west at Circle 3.] Offers pony rides, trail rides, wagon rides, boarding and more. Hours vary by season. Call 541/593-4609 for more information and reservations.
- ROCK CLIMBING: Try this climbing school to get started, or to check out equipment and best locations. First Ascent
- MOUNTAIN BIKE TOUR: The best fun-for-all of a summer tour is the Paulina Plunge. Peddle, peddle, peddle, then take a dip. Fun! Paulina Plunge.
- WHITEWATER RAFTING & KAYAKING : Lots of companies offering trips, tours, even overnight camping excursions. Sun Country Tours picks up at Sunriver Village. Another one, more into the camping aspect of moving down (north) the river is River Trails Deschutes. Another is All Star Rafting and Kayaking. - GOLF: Closest to the house is Quail Run (9 holes) at 1-800-895-GOLF (541/536-1303). Nearby are Sunriver's Woodlands and Meadows courses, Lost Tracks Golf Club, River's Edge Golf Course, and Widgi Creek Golf Club. There are fall and spring times of the year when you can both ski and golf on the same day!
- SUNRIVER NATURE CENTER & OBSERVATORY: Just west of Circle 3 in Sunriver, they have interpretive exhibits, large scale public observatory, educational programs, botanical garden, and a nature trail. Great for a laid back day. Sunriver Nature Center
- HIGH DESERT MUSEUM: Incredible place you'll long remember. Exhibits that bring history alive and exploratory trails with scheduled wildlife shows, both indoors and outside. High Desert Museum
